The founder and managing director of Edinburgh-based PR agency Hot Tin Roof has been appointed chair of CIPR Scotland, one of the 14 volunteer-led groups within the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ UK-wide network.
Sarah Lee, who has served as vice chair for the past two years, takes over from Stewart Argo following the group’s Annual General Meeting in October.
During her tenure as vice chair, CIPR Scotland membership grew by nine per cent, professional accreditation increased by 44 per cent and event attendance more than doubled.
Her appointment comes as communications professionals across Scotland navigate AI disruption, misinformation challenges, economic pressures and the approaching May 2026 Scottish Parliament elections.
Lee said: “After three decades in this industry, I've learned that what endures through every technological shift and economic pressure is community. Real community where we genuinely support each other, share knowledge, and help each other succeed.
“Stewart has handed over an organisation in remarkably strong shape, and I'm committed to building on those foundations while ensuring every member, wherever they are in Scotland, feels this is their community.”
As chair, Lee will prioritise in-person regional events, launch the new Scotland PR Awards in autumn 2026 and support members navigating the changed political landscape. She will also focus on making professional development accessible and affordable during challenging economic times, with new breakfast briefings and expanded university partnerships supporting early-career professionals.
Stewart Argo, outgoing Chair, said: “Sarah has been instrumental in CIPR Scotland’s growth over the past two years. Her strategic vision, collaborative approach, and deep understanding of the challenges facing modern communicators make her the ideal person to lead us forward.”
