Harry Brown, a former senior accounts manager and executive at SEC Newgate, has joined the UK Chamber of Shipping as a public affairs manager.

In his new role, Brown will support the Chamber’s external profile and champion the key priorities for the sector with stakeholders in Parliament, Whitehall and beyond.

The role sits within the expanded external affairs function at the trade association, led by director Stef Kenyon, and reflects its strategic commitment to raising awareness of the shipping industry and its role in powering the UK economy.

The appointment increases the size of the team to three, up from two this time last year when Kenyon was appointed. The department now has a broader strategic brief inclusive of digital comms, media, public affairs and campaigning.

Speaking to In.Comms, Brown explained that moving in-house at the UK Chamber of Shipping felt like a “natural next step, allowing me to apply my experience directly within a single organisation and contribute to long-term strategy and delivery on behalf of the shipping industry”.

He added: “With major legislation ahead and heightened trade and geopolitical pressures, shipping is increasingly central to delivering growth, resilience and prosperity for the UK. I’m looking forward to working closely with members to ensure the industry’s voice is clearly heard by stakeholders.”

Brown brings significant experience, network and policy understanding from his time at SEC Newgate, through its strong ETI practice. He first joined SEC in March 2020 as an executive, then joined ECF as a senior executive in June 2021, before returning to SEC as a senior executive in January 2022, eventually becoming senior account manager in September 2024.

At the Chamber he will support efforts to deepen engagement across government and deliver the UK Chambers public affairs strategy.
