Stuart Boxall has left his role as head of corporate relations at the British Library to become the first director of development and communications at the Foundling Museum in London.

He starts his new role next week and will sit on the senior management team, reporting to the museum’s director, Emma Ridgway.

His role has been created at what is an “exciting and transformative moment in the Foundling Museum’s journey”, according to Ridgway.

Boxall will lead a team which includes a marketing and comms manager, a senior philanthropy and partnerships manager, and a marketing and comms assistant.

The museum describes itself as a place that “explores stories of love, loss, and care through music, art, writing, and historic objects” and celebrates “people who have been in care, and all those who care for them”.

Boxall is joining from the British Library, where he spent almost a decade and created its corporate relations team. Earlier in his career he worked in corporate partnership roles at organisations such as the Barbican Centre, and children’s charities Coram, The Children's Society, YouthNet, and ChildLine.

He describes himself, on his LinkedIn profile, as an “experienced leader in arts and heritage organisations” who builds and nurtures “high-performing partnership teams”.

Commenting on his new role, Boxall said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Foundling Museum, with its roots as the UK’s first public art gallery and the birthplace of cultural philanthropy, where art and music sparked social change.”

He added: “This legacy continues today through its exhibitions and award-winning learning programmes, made possible thanks to its generous supporters.”
