Jay Longworth has been appointed to the new role of director of fundraising and communications at Barts Charity, reporting to chief executive Fiona Miller Smith.
She has joined the charity from Murray Edwards College at the University of Cambridge, where she was director of development.
Her other past roles include head of development, Imperial College London; senior business development manager, University of Melbourne; and head of philanthropy, World Vision Australia.
Barts Charity funds healthcare and research projects at Barts Health NHS Trust, Queen Mary University of London and City St George's, University of London.
Longworth manages a 17-strong team in her new role, which started earlier this month, and has an initial target of raising at least £5m annually.
The charity describes her as an “accomplished fundraising and communications leader” with “experience across higher education, international development and the charitable sector”.
Commenting on her initial priorities, Longworth told In.Comms: “There’s huge potential to grow awareness of the charity’s work and to connect more people to the difference it makes every day.”
She added: “I’m particularly looking forward to amplifying the stories that show how generosity translates directly into better health outcomes, and to raising more funding to support this vital work.”
And in a post on LinkedIn, Longworth said: “What drew me to Barts Charity is its bold vision: using philanthropy to create real, measurable change in people’s lives. As someone who lives in East London, this mission feels deeply personal.”
